Daniel Serra is a Swedish culinary archeologist, specialized in Viking Age and medieval food. His background is in prehistoric and medieval archeology, but he took a keen interest in the culinary side of the past during his time as an archeology student, trying out any recipe he could find from Ancient Rome to medieval and Renaissance Europe After his studies he was involved in a medieval catering firm, serving medieval/renaissance dinners and trying to educate the customers on medieval food culture on the side. As he was accepted as a PhD-student his main focus became the culinary practices of the Viking Age, part of his studies involved looking at and recreating Viking food through experimental archaeology. While the thesis never was finished, the experimental studies of tastes from the Viking Age took a main seat, and has been Daniel's main subject ever since. Today Daniel is a freelancing culinary archaeologist, researching, cooking and talking about food from the Viking Age, and other periods up until the 17th century. He has been hired as a lecturer and demonstrator by both museums and events both all over Scandinavia and in the US. Pre-covid he has done recurring tours in the midwest of USA where he has taught, cooked and talked about Viking Age food. His research has so far resulted in two books “An Early Meal - a Viking Age Cookbook and Culinary Odyssey” and “En sås av ringa värde”, co-authored with Hanna Tunberg. “An Early Meal- a Viking Age Cookbook and Culinary Odyssey” is his study on Viking Age food recreated as a cookbook, and “En sås av ringa värde” is a translation/interpretation of the so-called Harpesträng cookbook from 13th century Denmark. The latter is currently being thoroughly updated and translated to English.
At VikingsCon, Daniel will be hosting a cooking workshop Saturday and Sunday with re-enactment group Clan of the Raven. Clan of the Raven is a non-profit historical education group focused on The Viking Age.

Caught by Demons, the first novel in her Laila of Midgard series takes place in Post-apocalyptic Los Angeles where humans and Supernaturals coexist in tentative peace.
